₹3,000 crore sanctioned for development of 10,500 km road network in Andhra Pradesh, says official

The State government is giving high priority to the improvement of road infrastructure and is currently undertaking road development works at a cost of ₹3,000 crore, said M.T. Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary to the Government for Transport, Roads, and Buildings Department.

He inspected the ongoing road works in Anakapalli district on Friday (January 09, 2026) and later participated in a press conference along with District Collector Vijaya Krishnan.

Addressing the media, Mr. Krishna Babu said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has allocated ₹3,000 crore for the development of 10,500 kilometres of roads and all necessary approvals for the works have already been granted.

He said that in Anakapalli district, road works worth ₹113 crore have been sanctioned for 38 roads under this programme. Of these, tenders have been completed for 22 works, while the remaining works are currently at the tender stage. He said all these works are scheduled to be completed by June. Major road works such as Addu Road–Narsipatnam, Bheemunipatnam–Narsipatnam and Vaddadi–Paderu will also be completed within this timeframe.

He also stated that under the National Development Programme (NDP) scheme, road works covering 62 kilometres are being taken up with an allocation of ₹130 crore, and these works are expected to be completed by March. He stated that payments to contractors for these works are being released regularly. So far, ₹60 crore has been paid, and steps are being taken to clear the remaining ₹70 crore in pending dues.

Mr. Krishna Babu said that a meeting was held with contractors, during which they were assured that pending bills and payments would be cleared. Contractors were also instructed to expedite the completion of works.

To regulate overloaded vehicles, the government is taking steps to install automatic load monitoring systems at toll gates from February. These systems will be linked with RTGS to automatically impose penalties on vehicles carrying excess load, he added.
