Bandwaale: Prime Video drops trailer of musical dramedy starring Zahan Kapoor and Shalini PandeyCreated and written by Ankur Tewari and Swanand Kirkire, Bandwaale is directed by Akshat Verma and Ankur Tewari, and produced by OML Entertainment. Music forms the emotional backbone of the show, with original compositions by Yashraj Mukhate, marking his first long-form series as a composer, along with poems by Kausar Munir.
The series features an ensemble cast led by Zahan Kapoor, Shalini Pandey and Swanand Kirkire, with Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupama Kumar and Sanjana Dipu playing pivotal roles. Set in the town of Ratlam, Bandwaale follows Mariam, a young poet who begins anonymously sharing her work online while navigating questions of identity, freedom and self-expression. Her journey runs parallel to Robo and DJ Psycho, as the trio turn to music, humour and shared creativity to imagine a future beyond their immediate realities.
The trailer highlights themes of friendship, quiet rebellion and creative restlessness, positioning art as both an escape and a means of self-discovery. Music is not treated as a background element but as a narrative driver that shapes the emotional arc of the story. Speaking about his character, Zahan Kapoor said, “DJ Psycho is somewhat of a mystery, doing all sorts of odd jobs in Ratlam, he feels deeply but expresses himself through collaborative music with beats and sounds.” He added that the character’s journey changes after meeting Mariam and Robo, calling the experience of playing him “incredibly freeing” and noting that the show stayed with him long after filming wrapped.
Shalini Pandey, who plays Mariam, reflected on the internal conflict her character faces. “Mariam is someone who is constantly negotiating between what she feels and what the world expects her to be,” she said, adding that poetry becomes her most honest form of expression. Pandey described the role as a personal journey of understanding silence, restraint and the process of finding one’s voice.
With its focus on creativity, friendship and emotional nuance, Bandwaale positions itself as a coming-of-age musical drama rooted in small-town India, set to arrive on Prime Video just ahead of Valentine’s Day.
