Maruti e-Vitara gets 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, becomes 4th Maruti to score full marks

5-Star Rating: The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara has received a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, becoming the fourth Maruti model after the Dzire, Baleno, Victoris and Invicto to achieve this result. The electric SUV had earlier been tested by Euro NCAP, where it secured a 5-star rating in September 2025. Adult Protection: In adult occupant protection, the e-Vitara scored 31.49 out of 32 points. The frontal offset deformable barrier test returned 15.49 out of 16, while the side deformable barrier test showed a full 16 out of 16. The SUV offered good protection to the head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet, while the driver’s chest and tibias received adequate protection. The side pole test also showed good results. Child Protection: For child occupant protection, the e-Vitara scored 43 out of 49 points. It achieved a perfect 24 out of 24 dynamic score, 12 out of 12 for CRS installation and 7 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. Rearward-facing seats for 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies scored full points in frontal and side tests. ISOFIX mounts are standard on the second-row outboard seats. (Image: bncap.in)

Safety Equipment: The e-Vitara offers seven airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, ESC, pedestrian protection systems and seatbelt reminders across all variants. The Alpha trim adds a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, auto-hold, TPMS and front and rear parking sensors. The model becomes the second Maruti after the Victoris to receive Level-2 ADAS. Rival Comparison: The e Vitara’s closest rival, the Mahindra BE 6, also holds a Bharat NCAP 5-star rating. However, the BE 6 scored 0.49 points more in adult protection and 2 points more in child protection. Despite this margin, the e-Vitara still records one of the highest scores in the programme. Technical Details: The tested e-Vitara weighed 2,082kg and used the HEARTECT-e platform with a flat floor and 2,700mm wheelbase. It comes with 49kWh and 61kWh LFP battery packs using a Cell-to-Pack layout, with the larger one claimed to exceed 500km per charge. Power comes from a PMSM motor producing up to 128kW and 192.5Nm. Market Position: Maruti has produced the e-Vitara at its Gujarat plant since August 2025. It features 18-inch alloy wheels, next-gen LED lighting and a digital cockpit with dual displays, ventilated seats and connected-car functions. Expected pricing starts around 17–18 lakh (ex-showroom). The model will compete with the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
