Negligence case filed in manhole death: police
According to the police, a case has been registered under Sections 285 (creating danger, obstacles in public way) and 106 (death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unknown persons.
The police said they received a PCR call around 2.36 p.m. on Tuesday at the Begumpur police station regarding a person suspected of having fallen into a manhole. A police team rushed to the spot, where the caller, Amir Hussain, told the officials that his friend Birju Kumar Rai, a resident of Samastipur in Bihar, had gone missing on Monday night, an officer said, adding that Birju’s body was fished out of the manhole on a Delhi Development Authority land.
Upon investigation, the police found that Birju and his friend Budhan Das alias Suraj had consumed alcohol and were returning to their jhuggi around 7.30 p.m. on Monday when Birju lost his balance and fell into the manhole. Mr. Das, who was intoxicated, did not inform anyone and alerted Mr. Hussain only after regaining consciousness on Tuesday afternoon, the officer added.
