From The Hindu Archives, January 21, 1926: New dam on blue Nile

Rugby, Jan. 20: The great new Makwar Dam on the Blue Nile in Sudan will be officially opened by Lord Lloyd, British High Commissioner in Egypt, tomorrow. The Dam represents one of the world’s greatest engineering feats and it is estimated that it will bring into cultivation immediately some 300,000 acres of land, which have hitherto been an arid desert.
