Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji opened up about the deeper responsibility and emotional intent behind the Mardaani franchise during Bollywood Hungama’s Hangout at St Xavier’s College. The interaction was held as part of promotions for her upcoming film Mardaani 3, which is scheduled to release in theatres on January 30, 2026.

She stressed that the franchise has always been about sending a clear message — not just to women, but also to those who commit crimes against them.

“Firstly, the boys should be scared. They should be so afraid that they never even think of perpetrating a crime like this. That is how it should end for them,” Rani said, emphasising deterrence as one of the film’s strongest intentions.

At the same time, she highlighted that the emotional takeaway for women is equally important. According to Rani, Mardaani 3 aims to leave girls feeling empowered rather than fearful. “And the girls, of course, should come out with hope, with empowerment, with strength, with a fearlessness that they should all feel. I think that is what my biggest takeaway from Mardaani 3 should be,” she added. Rani also pointed to the importance of awareness, stating that films like Mardaani exist because the issues they address are real and present in society.

“And of course, there should be awareness about the problems that are happening. When you shy away from accepting that these things are happening, it’s not as if that reality is not happening around us. So it is very important to be aware,” she concluded.

The Mardaani franchise, which features Rani as fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy, has consistently tackled crimes against women with a hard-hitting and realistic approach.
