Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. (KBL), an Indian multinational engineering company and into fluid management solutions, has announced the inauguration of a new factory building at its Kaniyur manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. This coincided with KBL completing 100 years since the manufacturing and installation of India’s first centrifugal pump in January 1926.

The new factory building is designed to enhance productivity, improve operational efficiency and support advanced manufacturing processes, the company said.

It will enable KBL to meet growing domestic and global demand while maintaining uncompromising quality standards, it added.

Rama Kirloskar, Joint Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, said, “This new factory building at Kaniyur reflects our confidence in India’s manufacturing strength and our readiness for the future.”

“As we celebrate 100 years since installing India’s first centrifugal pump, this facility enhances our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions while remaining deeply committed to customer value, people empowerment, and nation-building,” she added.

The company said renewables will power 80% of operations. The solar power installation at the facility marks a significant milestone in KBL’s sustainability journey. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 122.5 tCO₂e and cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 89%, the company said.

“With renewable sources now meeting nearly 80% of the facility’s electricity requirements, the initiative supports energy efficiency, long-term cost sustainability, and responsible growth, while delivering annual savings of approximately Rs 21.64 lakh,” the company said.

The company is also pivoting in multiple new areas. Tapping the U.S. Data Center boom KBL’s U.S. operations are moving away from standalone component supply to providing modular, containerized packaged systems for data centers.

“KBL now integrates complex piping, control systems, and valves into modular “houses” for fire, primary cooling, and secondary cooling for data centers,” the company said.

Recently the company secured a contract to supply 14,000 pumps for petroleum applications, competing directly against American companies.
