Mother hangs two children before ending her life in Periyapatna

A 37-year-old woman allegedly hanged two of her children to death before taking her own life in Koppa village of Periyapatna taluk on January 25.

According to Mysuru district Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, the deceased, Hemalatha, is suspected to have taken the extreme step following differences with her husband.

Police said she had called her brother earlier in the morning to speak about her marital issues. When she failed to respond to his calls about an hour later, he rushed to her house and found Hemalatha and two of her children — a 15-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy — dead.

The woman’s eldest daughter, aged around 16, who was also allegedly hanged, survived after managing to loosen the noose and escape, police added. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
