Tourism Minister R. Rajendran on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development works worth ₹1.79 crore in Salem.

The Minister said that under the Salem North Assembly Constituency Development Fund (2025–2026), completed projects worth ₹1.44 crore were inaugurated. These included a passenger shelter near the Government Women’s Arts College constructed at ₹18 lakh, a compound wall and footpath at Ezil Nagar built at ₹24 lakh, and Fair Price Shop building at Hasthampatti, the Hanging Garden complex, near Vandipettai, and at the Arunachalam Street Municipal Primary School. Two additional classrooms constructed at ₹40 lakh were also inaugurated at the municipal primary school.

In addition, the Minister laid the foundation for a sewage drain canal project costing ₹35 lakh at the Bharathi Nagar Mariamman Temple area, covering both the northern and southern sections.
