In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Bhumi Pednekar revealed that Daldal was not a project born overnight but one that evolved slowly, patiently, and with rare conviction over several years, an increasingly uncommon approach in today’s fast-paced OTT ecosystem. “It was actually 2020 when Vikram-sir and I first spoke,” Bhumi recalled. “At that point, he just had maybe three pages.”

The idea was nascent, fragile, and far from a finished blueprint. Yet, it was the intent behind those few pages that made Bhumi commit early.

“He told me, ‘We’re working on something very interesting, but it’s a series,’” she said. “I’ve worked with Abundantia before, this was my third outing with them. I trust the team, I trust Vikram-sir. I told him whenever you’re ready, I’d love to read it.”

That trust paid off three years later. In 2023, Malhotra reached out again. “He said, ‘Do you remember we spoke about that thing?’ I said yes. He said, ‘It’s ready. Read it.’” What followed was instinctive. “I started reading the episodes and I just couldn’t stop.”

That long gestation period allowed Daldal to mature into something deeply layered. Director Suresh Triveni, who initially resisted the idea of doing a series, eventually found himself pulled in by the strength of the core material and the writers’ room discussions.

Writer Amrit Raj Gupta added that this slow burn was essential to the show’s psychological depth. “To understand why these characters do what they do takes time. You can’t rush that.”

In an era where projects are often greenlit on trend value, Daldal stands out as a reminder of what happens when creators allow ideas to breathe. The result is a series that feels considered rather than constructed proof that patience, when paired with clarity of vision, can still lead to powerful storytelling.
