Govt. orders schools to form fee regulation committees in 10 days

The Delhi government on Sunday asked all private schools to form SLFRCs within 10 days, after which they are expected to submit details of the proposed fees for the next three academic years, starting with 2026-27.

It added that until the fee for the next three academic years is fixed in accordance with the Act’s provisions, schools won’t be allowed to increase the fee being charged as of April 1, 2025.

“Any exorbitant fee charged by schools for the academic year 2025-26 shall be regulated and dealt with in accordance with law, subject to the outcome of the proceedings challenging the vires of the Act and the Rules currently pending before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court,” it stated.

The order called the ‘Delhi School Education (Removal of Difficulties) Order’ addresses the issues raised regarding the implementation of The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Act, 2025. The notification stated that the formation of the SLFRCs for the ongoing session was not possible before the stipulated date, as the Act was brought into force in December.

The Directorate of Education (DoE), in December, had made a one-time exception for the current academic year and mandated that the SLFRCs be stipulated by January 10. This was postponed to January 20 after schools approached the Delhi High Court with these issues, including the fact that winter vacations were in progress. Many schools have not yet formed committees, as they had approached the Supreme Court regarding the same.
