Netflix has unveiled Hum Hindustani as part of its content slate announced on February 3, bringing to the screen a compelling story inspired by true events from India’s first democratic election. Headlined by Saif Ali Khan and Pratik Gandhi, the project revisits a pivotal moment in the country’s history, set in the years immediately following Independence.

Faced with resistance, logistical chaos, and overwhelming odds, the series explores the immense effort required to translate the promise of democracy into reality. The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of those working on the ground, highlighting the challenges and convictions that shaped the democratic process.

Sharing their thoughts on the project, the team behind Hum Hindustani said, “At the heart of Hum Hindustani lies one of the most defining promises of a newly independent India- the right to vote. The series is written and directed by Rahul Dholakia, known for his grounded and socially resonant storytelling. Hum Hindustani is produced by Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and Nikkhil Advani under the banner of Emmay Entertainment, marking another collaboration between the production house and Netflix.

Alongside Saif Ali Khan and Pratik Gandhi, the series features an ensemble cast that includes Deepak Dobriyal, Mimi Chakraborty, Sarika, and Shraddha Dangar. The diverse cast brings together performers known for their strong screen presence and nuanced performances, adding depth to the historical narrative.

With Hum Hindustani, Netflix continues to invest in stories rooted in Indian history and identity.
