BCB president requests Pakistan to play India in T20 World Cup for ‘benefit of cricket ecosystem’
“We are deeply moved by Pakistan’s efforts to go above and beyond in supporting Bangladesh during this period. Long may our brotherhood flourish,” the statement reads.
“Following my short visit to Pakistan yesterday and given the forthcoming outcomes of our discussions, I request Pakistan to play the ICC T20 World Cup game on 15 February against India for the benefit of the entire cricket ecosystem.”
Pakistan had initially threatened to boycott the tournament after the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request to shift its T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. Bangladesh, which didn’t budge from its stance of not wanting to play in India due to security concerns, was replaced by Scotland in the 20-team tournament.

While the Pakistan government eventually granted permission for its men’s cricket team to take part in the upcoming T20 World Cup, it said it would boycott the league stage match against archrival India on February 15 in Colombo without specifying the reason behind the decision.
The ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board are understood to have initiated formal discussions on February 7 about Pakistan’s participation in the India clash. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Aminul and the ICC met in Lahore on Sunday in an effort to resolve the standoff.
“The BCB extends its sincere appreciation to the PCB, ICC and all involved for their positive roles in trying to overcome recent challenges.
“The BCB wishes to express its profound and heartfelt gratitude to PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi, his board and the cricket fans of Pakistan. Throughout this period, the PCB has demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and solidarity,” the board’s release added.
