Don’t know why we didn’t get to train under lights, says Namibia captain ahead of India match

Namibia’s opening game of this T20 World Cup against the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday was a morning affair.

After going down by seven wickets, Namibia coach Craig Williams had said that his team had planned for a training session in the evening in preparation for the clash versus India under floodlights. However, Namibia was given an afternoon slot for practice on Wednesday as India went through its drills in twilight on both days leading up to the contest.

Curiously, Canada, which will take on the UAE in a 3 p.m. start on Friday, got to train alongside India.

Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus wasn’t too pleased about it.

“We haven’t got floodlights at our grounds in Namibia. Infrastructure-wise, it is probably the challenge for us. Barring the guys who have played in the Nepal Premier League, ILT20 and the World Cups we have played, we don’t train under lights very often. We haven’t been given a training session at night before this game. I don’t know why. I see that India has had two night training sessions. Make of that what you want. We will just rock up and do it the Namibian way, which is to fight,” he said.
