Opener Abhishek Sharma was not part of the playing eleven for India’s second T20 World Cup 2026 Group-A match against Namibia in New Delhi on Thursday.
The left-handed batter was replaced at the top of the order by Sanju Samson, who plays his first match across the last two World Cups.
Abhishek has been suffering from a stomach bug since the eve of India’s contest against the USA in Mumbai and has not trained with the team since. The southpaw was hospitalised for two days due to the stomach infection.
He was out for a golden duck against the USA in the opening game and took no further part in the match after, with Samson replacing him while fielding.
Samson batted in the nets ahead of the Namibia clash and was seen conversing regularly with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.
