The makers of Season 2 of Netflix’s acclaimed crime drama Kohrra recently opened up about the show’s distinctive tone and why they believe it goes far beyond being a typical thriller. Speaking exclusively with Bollywood Hungama, the creators reflected on how the decision to make Season 2 was not driven purely by the success of the first instalment, but by whether they genuinely had more story to tell.

EXCLUSIVE: Sudip Sharma on making Kohrra S2, “We asked ourselves, ‘Do we want to do another season?’”Sudip Sharma revealed that the team initially treated Season 1 as a complete narrative. “I like writing self-contained stories. So the first one, if there was no second season, I would have been perfectly fine with it,” he said. He added that when Season 2 was offered, the writers’ room took time to decide if another chapter was necessary. “We sat ourselves down… and asked ourselves that question… Do we want to do another season? And is there more of this story left in us?”

The makers shared that continuing the show also meant taking difficult creative calls. “If we are making another season then there are some tough decisions that need to be made,” the writer said, adding that they had to exit certain character arcs and shift the story into a new setting. Actor Mona Singh, who joins the new season, said she did not hesitate before signing on. “I didn’t even think twice before saying yes. I jumped at it because I’m a big, big fan of Season 1, big fan of the makers,” she said, calling herself “very, very lucky to be the chosen one in Season 2.”

The director also spoke about preserving the show’s signature silence-heavy storytelling. “There’s a tonality to it, there’s an aesthetic to it, there is an immersive quality to it,” he said, stressing that maintaining the mood was essential. “You have to trust what you’re making and you have to trust your process.”
