EXCLUSIVE: “I would give my ARM or LEG to direct a YRF Spy Universe film”, admits Mardaani 3 director Abhiraj Minawala 3 : Bollywood News

Mardaani 3 director Abhiraj Minawala has had a long association with Yash Raj Films (YRF). He began his journey as an assistant director on films such as Rocket Singh (2009), Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011), and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2011). Later, he was the associate director (action) in Tiger 3 (2023) and the associate director in War 2 (2025). In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Abhiraj revealed that he also worked on Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan (2023) for nearly 6 months. He said, “Some really complicated action scenes were happening and so, I had helped (the team of Jawan) execute those sequences.”

Mardaani 3, too, had some memorable action scenes, especially the massy entry scene of Rani Mukerji. Meanwhile, YRF is known for its blockbuster Spy Universe series. Having worked on two films of the series already, namely Tiger 3 and War 2, is there a possibility that he might direct one of the forthcoming films of the YRF Spy Universe?

Abhiraj Minawala told Bollywood Hungama, “There are no talks as such. But I would love to make an entertaining film in this genre. I love action. If that opportunity came my way, I would 100% give my arm or leg for that.”

YRF Spy Universe began with Ek Tha Tiger (2012) followed by Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), both of which were led by Salman Khan. It was the superstar who gave Abhiraj a break as a director with Loveyatri (2018). During the 2020 lockdown, Abhiraj was at Salman Khan’s sprawling farmhouse in Panvel for a couple of months, which indicates the kind of association they share.

When asked if Salman Khan had watched Mardaani 3, Abhiraj Minawala replied, “Not yet. He was travelling to different cities for the ISPL (Indian Street Premier League). He was also busy with the shoot of Battle Of Galwan. He wants to watch it; that’s what I heard. I am quite excited to show him the film (smiles).”
