“I think the last game gave us a lot of confidence, we did certain aspects really well against a strong Indian side,” said head coach Craig Williams on Saturday. “We’re feeling good, we prepared extremely well before the World Cup, and have had really good training sessions,” he added.
The match will be the second of three games in different venues for Namibia, and it will look to draw on its coaching staff’s experience to adapt. “The biggest thing for us is having guys like Justin Kemp, who’s played two IPLs and knows Indian conditions really well, and Gary Kirsten, whose second home is India. Having those guys in our camp has really helped as we move to new states and new conditions,” said Williams.
However, Williams noted that the conditions were unlikely to have a massive impact on his players, noting that they had “looked good in all areas.”

Williams also praised skipper Gerhard Erasmus, whose esoteric off-spin offerings earned him figures of four for 20 against India. “He’s extremely clever, and he trains really hard,” Williams said of his captain, “so he’s got various options that he’s brought into his game now, which he’s actually been using for a couple of months. I wish you guys could see how hard this guy works, and I’m glad he got some success against India so the whole world can see what he’s capable of.”
Meanwhile, USA coach Pubudu Dassanayake opined that his side’s 93-run hammering of the Netherlands would benefit the team, saying, “I think we’re ahead, we had a great practice session under lights, and then through the match we have got used to conditions.”
He also hoped that the comprehensive manner of victory laid down a marker of the team’s quality. “Unfortunately, the schedule was such that we had to play the two big nations first, but the Netherlands game is a message of how far ahead this team is, and that this is a team that deserves to play more against Full Members,” he said.
Dassanayake also hoped that the team’s injury situation would lighten, having lost Andries Gous to illness last time out. “The whole group has had a few things, even Ali (Khan) played despite not being fully fit. Slowly, I’m hoping that things become better for the next game.”
