Gill, India’s Test captain, won the Indian Premier League with Gujarat Titans in its inaugural season in 2022. However, he missed out on the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad, which included Abhishek — currently the World No. 1 T20I batter — and Arshdeep, India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in its title-winning campaign in 2024.
The upcoming franchise league will be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) in June 2026 and will replace Punjab’s domestic T20 cricket league.

The league will have six franchise-based teams, and players only registered with Punjab will be bought through an auction.
Every major Punjab player will be part of the league, with Ramandeep Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir, Anmolpreet Singh and Prabhsimran Singh, among others, expected to be in action.
Vihaan Malhotra, who is part of the Indian under-19 side, will also feature in the league.
