Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha says his creative partnership with Taapsee Pannu is rooted in shared intent rather than career calculation, as the two come together once again for Assi. The film marks their third collaboration after Mulk and Thappad.

Anubhav Sinha says shared belief drives his collaboration with Taapsee Pannu in AssiSpeaking about working with Pannu, Sinha emphasised alignment over strategy. “She is seeking the exact same thing that I am seeking from the film,” he said. “She likes the subject matter. She connects with it. And she wants to tell that story as badly as I am.”

According to Sinha, this common purpose makes the collaboration seamless. “She is not doing the film because it’s a career strategy. She rises above her own capabilities because of her belief system and conviction,” he added.

Sinha and Pannu have previously worked together on socially driven dramas such as Mulk and Thappad, both of which received critical attention for their themes. Over the years, Pannu has built a body of work that includes films like Pink, Badla, and Rashmi Rocket, often taking on roles centered around social conflict, moral dilemmas, or personal resilience.

With Assi, the director-actor duo reunites once more, continuing a collaboration that Sinha describes as guided by shared conviction and storytelling intent.
