Boong is a 2024 Indian Manipuri-language film written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi. The film stars Gugun Kipgen, Bala Hijam, Angom Sanamatum, Vikram Kochhar, Nemetia Ngangbam, Jenny Khurai and Hamom Sadananda.
Prior to its BAFTA win, Boong had its world premiere at the Discovery section of the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2024. The film has since drawn attention for its rooted storytelling and portrayal of adolescence set against the socio-cultural landscape of Manipur.
The BAFTA recognition marks a significant milestone not only for the film’s team but also for regional Indian cinema on the global stage. Industry members and audiences have widely celebrated the achievement, viewing it as a notable moment for Manipuri-language storytelling in international awards circuits.
