Trick 1: Clear Cache and Junk Files
Cache and temporary files of apps take up most of the space in the phone. These files are not necessary, but get accumulated due to repeated use of the app.
Open Settings > go to Storage (or Device Care) > Cache or Junk files option will appear. Select everything and delete it. Many phones have a ‘Clean Now’ or ‘Optimize’ button, which automatically clears the cache. This frees up 1-5GB easily. No photo-video goes.
Trick 2: Delete unused apps and their data
There are many apps installed which you do not open for months. Settings > Apps > See which apps are taking up the most storage. Uninstall unused apps.
If you want to keep the app, just ‘Clear Cache’ and ‘Clear Data’ (note, you may have to login again with clear data).
Use Google Files app (free download from Play Store). It shows duplicate files, blurred photos, large downloaded files in ‘Clean’ section. Delete these, photos and videos will remain safe.
Trick 3: Backup and delete the local copy in Google Photos.
If you use Google Photos then this is the best way. Open the app > Turn on Backup (up to 15GB for free, or plan for more).
When all the photos and videos are backed up on the cloud, press the ‘Free Up Space’ button. It deletes only the backup copy from the phone, the originals remain safe on the cloud.
You can view or download from the app anytime. This can free up 10-30GB of space.
Trick 4: Clear Downloads Folder and Browser Data
Many downloaded files, images, PDFs get stored in Chrome or other browsers. Open File Manager > Check Downloads folder and delete unwanted files. Go to browser settings and do ‘Clear browsing data’ – clear cache and cookies.
If you have an SD card, shift some files there.
Trick 5: Turn on automatic cleaning
Turn on ‘Storage Manager’ or ‘Smart Storage’ in Settings. It automatically suggests old files, unused apps and keeps it clean in the background. With these tricks, your phone will run faster, will not hang and you will get space to add new content.
It will take just 10-15 minutes. Try it today and see how much space is freed up. Remember, photos and videos are your memories, keep them safe – just remove the extra junk.
