Big revelation in Meta’s internal survey. 1 out of every 5 children is seeing unwanted obscene or dangerous content on Instagram. Know what the new figures say about children’s online safety and what precautions parents should take.

Big question on children’s online safety
In today’s time, mobile remains in our hands from the time we wake up in the morning till we sleep at night. Social media has now become a part of everyone’s life, from children to adults. Children keep watching reels on Instagram or chatting with friends for hours. Many parents think that ‘if the child is at home, he is safe.’ But have you ever wondered what is visible on your child’s screen?
There is a bitter truth hidden behind the glamor of social media. A recent report has exposed this truth. An internal survey of Meta company has revealed such information which can worry any parent.
1 out of every 5 children is being victimized
According to a report by Reuters, serious questions have been raised regarding the security of children aged 13 to 15 years on Instagram and other Meta platforms. The company’s own survey found that 19 percent of teenagers had to see obscene or unwanted photos on Instagram that they did not want to see. That means 1 out of every 5 children admitted that they have seen unwanted ‘nude’ photos or objectionable content.
Not only obscenity, also danger to life
The survey also revealed that some children saw content promoting dangerous things like self-harm or suicide in their feeds or messages. Viewing such content at an early age can have a negative impact on the mental health of children and can lead to serious changes in their behaviour.
Are Facebook and Instagram safe?
Meta has introduced many features like ‘Sensitive Content Control’ on Facebook and Instagram. But new data shows that these features are not completely effective. Child rights activists say that these platforms are no longer as safe for children as before.
cleaning of company
Meta says that it is serious about the safety of children. The company has put in place tools to block chats with suspicious people and identify objectionable photos. But many times such content is sent through ‘private message’, which is difficult to stop completely due to privacy.
Now parents have more responsibility
No matter how much technology advances, bad people always find new ways. In such a situation, it is not right to trust only the company. According to experts, parents should take these steps:
- Talk openly to children and explain the dangers of social media.
- Keep an eye on their online activity – who they are talking to and what they are watching.
- Strengthen the privacy settings of your account and keep maximum security options turned on.
- Privacy is important in the digital age, but even more important is the safe and healthy future of our children. Being alert is the biggest solution to this problem.
