List of Indian captains to win senior men’s ICC titles: Suryakumar joins Kapil, Ganguly, Dhoni and Rohit

Suryakumar Yadav became the fifth Indian captain to win a senior men’s ICC title, after India beat New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

The Men in Blue pipped the Kiwis by 96 runs on the back of a stunning first-innings batting performance, where the team put up 255 for five in 20 overs which proved too tall an ask for the Kiwis.

Kapil Dev is the first Indian captain to triumph in an ICC event when he led India to the 1983 World Cup crown.

MS Dhoni is the most successful Indian captain in ICC tournaments. Under his leadership, India won three titles – T20 World Cup 2007, ODI World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2011.

India added two championship wins under Rohit Sharma – T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025.
