New Zealand coaches Oram and Ronchi set to miss South Africa and Bangladesh series’ to fulfil PSL committments


New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has confirmed that assistant coaches Luke Ronchi and Jacob Oram will miss its upcoming series’ against South Africa and Bangladesh in order to fulfil their coaching committments in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which begins later in March.

Oram and Ronchi, who have both represented New Zealand as players as well, are contracted to coach PSL side Islamabad United. Ronchi will service as the franchise’s head coach, with Oram acting as his assistant.

The PSL begins on March 26, which is in the middle of the Black Caps’ five-match series with South Africa.

“This is a great chance for Luke and Jake to further their coaching experience and grow their skills outside of the New Zealand cricket environment,” NZC Performance Manager Mike Sandle said in a statement.

“Just like our players, our coaches are in demand around the world and we believe Luke and Jake will not only personally benefit from their time at the PSL, but they will also be able to bring back knowledge and IP that can aid the BLACKCAPS and NZC in the future.”

New Zealand coach Rob Walter will instead be assisted by Jonny Bassett-Graham, coach of domestic side Wellington Blaze, and NZC network coach Graeme Aldridge for the South Africa series, while Canterbury coach Brendan Donkers will join for the Bangladesh tour.

The Black Caps are currently slated to play five T20Is at home against South Africa between March 15 and March 25, before departing for three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh in April.
