Chennai Super Kings unveils its Hall of Fame; Hayden, Raina announced as first inductees

Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings unveiled its Hall of Fame at its season-opening ‘CSK Roar’ event here at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, March 22.

The franchise also announced former India international Suresh Raina and former Australia opener Matthew Hayden as its first inductees.

Raina, whose performances for Chennai Super Kings have earned him the moniker Chinna Thala, sits fifth on the all-time IPL top run-scorers list with 5528 runs from 205 appearances, and is the franchise’s second-highest run-scorer behind MS Dhoni with 4686 runs from 176 appearances. He also holds the record for most fifties for CSK, with 33.

The southpaw represented Chennai Super Kings in every season it played between 2008 and 2019, and held the remarkable record of missing just a single match in the 165 it played during that time.

He was a member of its title-winning squads in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, and was Player of the Match in its 2010 final victory over Mumbai Indians for his 57 from 36 balls. He also won the Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014, winning Player of the Tournament in the latter.

Australian Hayden, meanwhile, was a member of the Super Kings’ squad for the first three seasons of the tournament. Across 32 appearances in the IPL, he scored 1107 runs, and won the Orange Cap in 2009 with 572 runs in 12 innings.

Hayden also notably unveiled the unconventional ‘Mongoose’ bat – a bat with a longer handle and smaller blade – in CSK colours.

Along with Raina, Hayden was also a member of CSK’s IPL and Champions League T20-winning squads in 2010.

Raina and Hayden were both among a number of “OG Legends” who were involved in a ceremony on Sunday to commemorate CSK’s previous victories ahead of its campaign to win its sixth IPL title in 2026. Former CSK stars including Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, and Michael Hussey were also involved in the ceremony.
