IPL 2026: Will Bangladesh show IPL?

Bangladesh is open to telecasting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and if any channel applies for it, the government will take it positively, Zahir Uddin Swapan, country’s newly appointed information and broadcasting minister, said.

In January, Bangladesh’s I&B ministry had ordered ban on airing the IPL following Mustafizur Rahman’s removal from the league. The broadcasting ban was issued through an official notification, signed by assistant secretary Firoz Khan.

However, in recent turn of events, Swapan has lifted the orders from the previous government. “No one applied to us to telecast the IPL. We don’t want to mix politics with sport. We will look at it from a commercial perspective, and if any channel applies to telecast the IPL, we will consider it positively.”

The minister also said that Star Sports, IPL’s official broadcaster, can also telecast the tournament and there is no bar on cable operators as well.

“We will not bar anyone from telecasting it. If Star Sports want to telecast it, they can. If any of our channels want to telecast it, we will take it positively, but we will not force anything,” Swapan said.
