Rizvi, who walked in at number four, said the coaches had already outlined his role, allowing him to play with freedom.
“The coaches had already told me that I will bat at number four and play positively. My plan today when I went out to bat was also to stay positive,” he said after the game.
Chasing a modest target, DC was rocked early, but Rizvi stitched a crucial partnership with Tristan Stubbs to steady the innings. The youngster revealed that the duo focused on absorbing pressure before accelerating.
“I had a chat with Stubbs that we will take our time as the score that we are chasing is not that big. We decided to take on the loose deliveries and that’s what we did,” he added.
Rizvi’s measured innings ensured there were no further hiccups as DC rebuilt after early losses and kept the required rate under control.
He also pointed to the advantage of familiarity with conditions, which helped him pace the chase effectively. “Whenever you play in your home conditions you have some idea about that, so it helped a lot,” Rizvi said.
