RR vs MI IPL 2026: Jaiswal quick-fire 50, Suryavanshi cameo, help Royals trounce MI in rain-curtailed game

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten fifty and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s quick-fire cameo helped the Rajasthan Royals secure a thumping 27-run-victory against Mumbai Indians in a rain curtailed match in Guwahati in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

It was a 11-over contest between the two sides, as rain interrupted play for the second IPL match in a row. The toss for the match was delayed for more than two hours, and persistent rains meant it was a frustrating wait for players and fans before the match finally got underway at 10:10 PM.

After a long wait, the toss was finally held at 9:55 PM and it was Mumbai Indians which won the toss and opted to bowl first, the obvious choice considering the conditions.

Advantage Mumbai Indians in this all important fixture, captain Hardik Pandya would have thought after the toss. But right from ball one, it was pure carnage from the RR batters. Yashasvi Jaiswal, taking strike in the first over against Deepak Chahar, started off by smashing 22 runs from his first six balls.

And then came the biggest moment of the match. Suryavanshi, facing Jasprit Bumrah for the first time in the second over of the match, smacked him for a six off his very first ball to leave India’s pace spearhead shell-shocked.

The teenager added another six to his tally in that over and hit three more sixes. He was eventually dismissed for a 14 ball 39, but not before he had inflicted enough damage on the scoreboard. RR were 80/1 after five overs, and MI briefly pulled things back in the middle by dismissing Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel.

But Jaiswal, who was still out in the middle and in full flow, punished the MI bowlers with some breathtaking stroke play to end unbeaten on 77 from 32 balls to help his team finish with 150 from its 11 overs.

MI, with a stiff target to chase, had to go big from ball one but lost wickets at regular intervals and could not build any momentum.

RR’s bowling, led by two wicket hauls from Sandeep Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi, executed their plans to perfection and with the help of some good fielding, took the sting out of the chase. The visitor at the end finished with 123/9. With today’s result, Rajasthan Royals go three from three.
