WhatsApp is working on a new design update, in which status updates will be shown directly in the Chats tab. With this, users will not need to go to a separate tab to view the status and the experience will be easier than before.

WhatsApp’s new UI leaked, Chats and Status will be together.
WhatsApp is working on a major design change, which can completely change the way users view their status. According to reports, the company is preparing to integrate status updates directly into the Chats Tab. This information has come from the report of WABetaInfo, in which it has been told that this feature is still in the development stage and its purpose is to access the status in a faster and easier way.
Under the new update, WhatsApp can add a dedicated status row above the Chats Tab. Users will no longer need to go to the Updates tab separately to view the status. By simply pulling down the chat list, recently shared statuses can be seen.
Faster and easier experience
The main objective of this change is to improve the user experience. WhatsApp wants users to be able to check status without changing tabs, making the use of the app smoother.
Changes in Navigation Bar also
According to the report, WhatsApp can also bring a status tray, which will appear in the navigation bar. In this, the statuses of those people with whom you communicate the most can be shown on priority. At the same time, muted or hidden status can be kept in a separate section, as is currently the case in the Updates tab.

You will be able to post status from Chats Tab only
Another major change could be that users will be able to post their status directly from the Chats Tab. This will make creating and sharing status easier and faster than before.
Work continues on both iOS and Android
This feature is currently seen during testing in TestFlight build of iOS, while its development is also going on for Android. However, this feature is not yet available to any beta user.
Official announcement has not been made yet
The thing to note is that WhatsApp has not yet made any official announcement regarding this feature. It is currently in the development phase, so there may be changes in it before launch or its release timeline may change.
