No major new features have been added in this new beta update, but special attention has been paid to system performance, stability and bug fixing. This time Google’s focus is on improving the user experience, so that the stable version can be more smooth and reliable.
System animations have been made smoother than before in Android 17 Beta 4. Besides, resource management has also been improved, which can improve both battery and performance. Small changes will also be seen in notification handling, system icons and some menu interfaces, which make use easier.
Updates are also going on in matters of privacy and security. Activity monitoring of apps running in the background has been further improved. Also, app permission management has been made more consistent, so that users are clearly aware of which app is accessing what.
On which phones will it work?
This update is available for many Pixel devices. This includes Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9 Series, Pixel 10 Series, Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold. The Pixel 6 series is the oldest supported lineup in this beta cycle.
Users who are already included in the Android beta program Touch will get this update through OTA (Over-the-Air). This update is free, but since it is currently a beta version, it may have some bugs or performance issues.
Google advises that it would be better to install the beta update on a secondary device instead of your main phone. It may still be a few months before stable Android 17 arrives, but this update clearly indicates that the final launch is not far away.
