New Delhi. If you live in a place where the mobile signal keeps coming and going or the internet speed is very slow, then there is a great news for you. Starlink, the company of the world’s richest man Elon Musk, is going to start its satellite internet service in India very soon. Its biggest benefit will be to those people who live in remote villages, deep forests or high mountains, where fiber cables or mobile towers have not reached till date. Till now we had to depend on wires laid on the ground or nearby mobile towers for internet, but this new technology will deliver internet directly from space to your home.

What is this technology, how does it work?

The way satellite internet works is quite different. In this, internet is not available through towers installed on the ground, but through small satellites revolving around the Earth in space. Starlink has left thousands of small satellites in space. When you take its connection, you are given a small dish and a receiver, which you can install on the roof of your house. This umbrella directly catches the signal from the satellite present in the sky and gives you superfast internet. This is exactly the same as the Dish TV installed in your home works, the only difference is that here you will get high-speed internet instead of TV channels. It has been connected to data center and cloud technology, so that communication can be maintained at lightning speed.

When will this service start?

It is being said that the talks between the Government of India and Starlink have now reached their final stages. Starlink has obtained the GMPCS license required to operate in India, but there are still some legal and security related issues. The Government of India and the Ministry of Communications want to ensure that the country’s security is not compromised.

The government’s condition is that the company will have to store its data in India only and follow the rules of foreign investment. As per the latest situation of April 2026, the government is closely examining the security clearance of the company. As soon as the spectrum is allotted, crores of people of India will be able to take advantage of this service. Indian companies like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are also preparing to launch their satellite services, due to which competition will be tough in the coming time and customers will be able to get better service at lower prices.

How does the common man benefit?

With the advent of this technology, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Digital India can completely come true. The biggest change will be seen in the fields of education and health. Village children will now be able to study online without interruption from teachers in big cities and doctors in remote areas will be able to treat patients through video calls.

Apart from this, in times of disaster, when mobile towers fall due to storm or flood, this satellite internet will still work, because its tower is not on the ground but in the sky. Starlink has officially announced the price of its Indian residential plan. The fee will be ₹8,600 per month and the hardware kit will cost ₹34,000. This kit includes satellite dish, router and mounting accessories. 30 days free trial will also be available. It is considered expensive but experts believe that once the service starts, companies will also offer cheaper plans.
