The ex-showroom price of Gold Star 650 in India ranges from ₹3.10 lakh to ₹3.45 lakh, while the Scrambler 650 has been launched recently and its starting price goes from ₹3.25 lakh to ₹3.41 lakh (Raven Black, Victor Yellow, Thunder Gray colours). The Scrambler is a little more expensive and heavier, but more versatile with higher ground clearance and dual-purpose tyres. The Gold Star is comfortable in the city and on the highway. Both come with premium fit-finish, Brembo brakes and Pirelli tyres. Let us know the difference between them.
Design and dimensions
BSA Gold Star 650 has pure classic retro look. It has round headlamps, classic fuel tank, low seat height and roadster styling, which is reminiscent of the old BSA Gold Star motorcycles. It looks perfect for city streets and long highway rides. Whereas, BSA Scrambler 650 is more rugged and adventurous. It gets high front fenders, higher handlebar, slimmer tail section, 19-inch front wheel and semi-knobby tires like the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR.
The Scrambler has a long wheelbase (1465 mm) and high ground clearance (187 mm), making it suitable for light off-roading. The seat height of the Scrambler is 820 mm (780-782 mm in the Gold Star), so taller riders may find the Scrambler more comfortable, while shorter riders may find the Gold Star better. The Scrambler gets a digital dash and Scrambler accents, while the Gold Star has a more retro feel with an analog-digital combination. Overall, the Gold Star is elegant and classic, the Scrambler is bold and versatile.
Features and Specifications
Both the bikes have dual-channel ABS, disc brakes with Brembo callipers, spoke wheels and premium finish. The long wheelbase and high position of the Scrambler make it stable, but it may feel a bit heavy in the city. The Gold Star’s short wheelbase (1425 mm) and low seat make it more comfortable. Both have 12 liter fuel tanks. The Scrambler gets off-road tires and a revised sub-frame, making it better suited for light trails. Features like USB charging and LED lighting are common in both. Gold Star has 6 color options and Scrambler has 3.
Engine and Performance
Both have the same 652cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine with twin-spark plugs. This engine gives about 45 PS power at 6500 rpm and 55 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. Both have the option of 5-speed gearbox. The torque delivery is very good especially in the low and mid-range, which is convenient for city riding and overtaking. Mileage is around 25 KMPL.
