SRH vs KKR IPL 2026: Who is Smaran Ravichandran, Karnataka batter who made his debut against Kolkata Knight Riders?

Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabada against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Smaran was bought as a replacement player by SRH for the injured Adam Zampa for his base price of RS.30 lakh in 2025, and the batter was subsequently retained by the franchise ahead of the 2026 season.

The 22-year-old is a left handed middle order batter who made his debut for Karnataka in the domestic circuit in the 2024-25 season. Smaran has amassed 1534 runs in 17 first class matches at an impressive average of 73.04, which includes three double hundreds.

Smaran shot to fame in the 2025 Vijay Hazare Trophy Final where he scored a match winning 101 to help Karnataka defeat Vidarabha and lift the trophy.

Smaran, who was signed as a replacement player, unfortunately got himself injured last year. But SRH, noticing his promise and potential, retained him ahead of the 2026 season and the batter has finally gotten his chance to play against Kolkata Knight Riders today.
