Nowadays the problem of fake SIM cards has increased a lot. Some people misuse your Aadhar card and get a SIM in your name. Later, if any fraud, cheating, cyber crime or other wrong activities happen on that SIM, the police first reaches you.
In such a situation, your name may unnecessarily appear in the police case. Therefore, it is very important to check in time how many SIM cards are registered in your name.
How to check fake SIM in your name?
The government has created Sanchar Saathi Portal for this. This is a completely free and safe method.
How to check in step by step manner:
- Open the browser on your mobile or computer and type sanchar.sathi.gov.in or sancharsaathi.gov.in.
- Select the option ‘Know Your Mobile Connections’ or ‘Connected Mobile Numbers’.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha.
- OTP will come, enter it.
- All the mobile numbers registered in your name will be visible on the screen.
- If you see any stranger number which you have never received, then immediately select the option of ‘Report Fraud’ or ‘Block Connection’ on the same portal.
Process to block fake SIM
- Go to the ‘CEIR’ (Central Equipment Identity Register) section on the portal itself.
- File a complaint about fake number.
- Upload the required documents (Aadhaar, photo).
- Within a few hours that number gets blocked.
Why is this investigation necessary?
- If you are cheated with a fake SIM in your name, the police will first harass you.
- Linking to bank account, UPI, Aadhaar can lead to financial loss.
- You can save yourself by checking in time.
Advice:
- Do this check once every 3-6 months.
- Do not share your Aadhar card with anyone.
- Always be present while taking the SIM.
- If you find any fake number, block it immediately and lodge a complaint with the nearest police station along with passport size photo.
