The government will reward these people for driving less.

The Central Government has started an important initiative towards reducing carbon emissions along with energy saving. The Ministry of Power has planned to implement a rotational 20 percent work-from-home (WFH) policy for its employees and give a bumper reward to those who drive less cars.

A voluntary portal is also being launched to promote use of public transport or carpooling and mileage tracking of family vehicles. This step has been taken in accordance with the recent instructions of the Prime Minister, in which special emphasis was given on energy saving and reducing emissions in offices. Let us know what is the complete preparation?

This is the plan

According to the report, under the new policy, employees will be allowed to work from home on an average 20 percent days every month. Through the rotation system, it will be ensured that office work is not affected. This will not only reduce electricity consumption in offices, but will also reduce the daily travel of employees, due to which energy can be saved. If we understand by example, an average employee travels 20-30 kilometers every day. If 20 percent of employees work from home, millions of liters of fuel can be saved and CO2 emissions can be reduced by thousands of tons.

These people will get a huge reward!

The ministry is also running awareness campaigns to encourage public transport, cycling and carpooling. Ministry employees will be given extra points for using metro, bus or sharing vehicles. The most important initiative is the ‘Family Vehicle Mileage Portal’. This voluntary portal will allow employees to enter the monthly mileage of all the vehicles of their family. Employees whose families use less vehicles can be rewarded not only with certificates but also with cash rewards or additional holidays.

The government is planning to expand it to other ministries and departments also. The Prime Minister had recently directed officials to take concrete steps to make government offices ‘green offices’. These include arrangements like keeping the AC temperature at 24-26 degrees, switching off unnecessary lights, use of LED bulbs and paperless office.
