Shreyas Iyer scores maiden IPL century as PBKS beats LSG

Shreyas Iyer notched up his maiden IPL century on Saturday, scoring an unbeaten 101 off just 51 balls during Punjab Kings’ match against Lucknow Super Giants.

The essay ensured PBKS won the contest by seven wickets and stayed alive in the race to Playoffs.

Iyer’s previous best score for the Kings was an unbeaten 97 against Gujarat Titans which came last year. He also had an unbeaten 93 and a 96-run innings for Delhi Capitals.

Walking in at 22 for two, Shreyas steered his team out of trouble with a 140-run partnership off just 76 balls with Prabhsimran Singh. Though Prabhsimran fell in the 15th over, Shreyas stood till the end, hitting the final ball of the chase for a maximum to get his team over the line.

Punjab moved to the fourth spot with the victory and now needs Rajasthan Royals to lose and Kolkata Knight Riders to win by a margin of less than 70 runs to advance to the Playoffs.
