New problem begins for Google Pixel Fold users
A new display bug has surfaced in Google’s first foldable smartphone Pixel Fold. Many users have complained that after the recent update, the outer cover screen of the phone is suddenly stopping working. According to reports, this problem is mainly affecting the small external display of the phone, which is used like a normal smartphone screen.
Many users say that the screen suddenly goes black and stops responding, while the phone continues to work normally from inside.
Screen turns on during boot, then turns black
According to posts shared on Reddit, some users were experiencing this problem intermittently for the last several months. Initially, the problem was resolved by restarting the phone, so it was considered a minor software glitch.
But in many cases the situation became worse when the phone’s battery drained completely. After charging and turning it on again, the cover screen stopped working completely.
Interestingly, the Google logo is normally visible on the cover display while the phone is booting. But as soon as the Android system is completely loaded, the screen goes black. For this reason, many users are considering it as a software problem and not a hardware problem.
Even normal methods are not working
Affected users tried various solutions like restarting the phone, booting in Safe Mode and resetting various settings, but the problem still persisted. This has increased the concern of users using foldable phones, because the cover screen is the most important part of such a device.
Temporary solution emerged
Although Google has not yet officially acknowledged the problem, some users on Reddit have shared a temporary solution. According to users, using a third-party app called ‘Fold Switcher’ available on GitHub and F-Droid helps the cover screen work again.
It is being told that as soon as ‘Rear Display’ or ‘REAR_DISPLAY_OUTER_DEFAULT’ mode is selected in the app, the outer screen becomes active immediately. The good thing is that it does not require any complicated setup.
increasing complaints
Now this problem does not seem to be limited to just one or two devices. Many Pixel Fold users have shared similar complaints in Reddit threads. If Google does not release software updates soon, then this problem can become a big problem for foldable phone users.
