In today’s time, privacy has become the biggest issue of messaging apps. WhatsApp already provides end-to-end encryption, but now to give users more control, the company is testing a new feature which is being called “Spoiler Message”. With the help of this feature, the message sent will be shown hidden (blurred), so that the receiver can decide for himself when to read it.
This feature can be especially useful for those who send sensitive information, OTP, or any data that is not required to be displayed immediately. This will strengthen the privacy in chat and reduce the risk of information falling into wrong hands.
How will WhatsApp Spoiler Message feature work?
This new feature of WhatsApp is currently in the testing phase, but according to reports, it will be very easy to use:
- The user will type or paste the message first
- Then after selecting that text long press will open the option.
- You have to go to the three dot menu and select “Spoiler” option.
- After this the message will be sent blurred (hidden)
- The receiver will have to tap on the message to view it.
- This means that the message will not be visible immediately, but will be opened only when the receiver wishes.
Key benefits of the feature
Users can get many privacy benefits from this new feature:
- OTP, password or personal information can be sent securely
- Spoilers or important information can be hidden and shared in group chat.
- The problem of accidentally viewing information immediately will be reduced.
- User will get more control over messages
Apart from this, this feature will not be limited to personal chat only, but can also work in group chat, so that any sensitive information can be protected from being immediately visible to everyone.
What is expected next?
Currently this feature is only in testing and has not been launched for all users. According to reports, WhatsApp can later implement it for media files like photos and videos as well. If the testing is successful then it will be rolled out for beta users first.
This feature is being considered a big step towards making WhatsApp more secure and smart, which will give users better privacy control while chatting.
