As the summer season approaches, the demand for air conditioners (AC) increases rapidly. But in 2026, just buying a big brand or low priced AC is not enough. In the era of rising electricity bills, new energy saving rules and smart features, choosing the right AC has become more important than ever.

If you are thinking of buying a new AC, then it can be beneficial for you to know some important things.

Which AC to buy: Split, Window or Portable?

There are mainly three types of ACs available in the market.

  1. Split ACs are most liked today. These have separate indoor and outdoor units, which reduces noise and provides better cooling. These are considered good for bedroom and living room.
  2. Window ACs come in a single unit and are relatively cheap in price. These are easy to install, but they can be noisy. This is a good option for small rooms and rented houses.
  3. Portable ACs can be easily placed anywhere as they do not require permanent installation. However, their cooling capacity and energy efficiency may be less than other options.

Inverter AC or Non-Inverter AC?

Nowadays most people like to buy Inverter AC.

Inverter AC increases or decreases the speed of its compressor according to the room temperature. This saves electricity and the room temperature also remains stable.

Whereas Non-Inverter AC turns on and off repeatedly, due to which electricity consumption is high. If you use AC for a long time, then Inverter AC can prove to be a better option.

Choose the right capacity according to the room

While buying an AC, it is very important to keep in mind its capacity i.e. Ton.

  • 1 ton AC for room size 100 to 120 square feet
  • 1.5 Ton AC for room size 120 to 180 square feet
  • 2 Ton AC for rooms larger than 180 square feet

If you buy a low capacity AC, it will not be able to cool the room properly. At the same time, high capacity AC can increase unnecessary electricity consumption.

Please pay attention to star rating

While buying an AC, definitely check its star rating. In India, ratings are given from 1 star to 5 stars.

5 Star AC is a little expensive in the beginning, but in the long run it can reduce the electricity bill significantly. If you run AC for many hours every day, then it will be beneficial to buy a 5 star model.

Smart and AI features are also important

Today’s modern ACs not only provide cooling, but also offer many smart features.

Features like Wi-Fi connectivity, mobile app control, voice command support, automatic timer and AI cooling are becoming increasingly popular.

Some ACs adjust the temperature automatically by understanding your usage habits. This saves electricity and also provides better cooling.

Take care of air quality features

In view of increasing pollution, air purification features have also become important.

Features like HEPA filter, PM2.5 filter, ionizer and UV sterilization help in keeping the air clean. Especially in homes with children and elderly people, such features can prove to be very useful.

Also see Maintenance and Warranty

While buying an AC, not only check the features but also its service and warranty.

ACs with copper condenser are considered more durable and easily repaired. Also, please check whether the service centers of the company are available in your city or not.

While buying a new AC, one should not decide just by looking at the price. It is important to keep in mind things like room size, electricity consumption, star rating, smart features, air quality and maintenance. By choosing the right AC, you can not only enjoy better cooling, but can also save on electricity bills in the long run.
