Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani has made a big announcement regarding India’s internet world. He has told that Jio will now descend directly from the sky. This means that Jio has started preparing to provide high-speed internet to every corner of the country through satellite. For this the company is joining hands with big satellite companies of the world. The aim of Jio is to provide internet not only to the cities but also to those remote villages and areas of the country, where installing mobile towers or laying fiber cables is very difficult.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of Reliance, Akash Ambani said that the company is working in two ways to start this service as soon as possible. The first thing is that the company is taking satellite capacity on lease from the world’s leading satellite companies. By doing this, Jio will be able to launch its service in the market in a very short time. Along with this, Jio does not want to depend only on others. According to Akash Ambani, Jio is also considering creating India’s own Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. This means that in future Jio will have a strong infrastructure of its own satellites in space, which will be completely Indian and will work according to the security and needs of the country.

Complete preparations are going on on the ground also

It is not enough to just have satellites in the sky, but arrangements also have to be made on the ground to reach that internet to our phones and computers. Akash Ambani said that Jio is working very fast to build the necessary ground station infrastructure (base station and control center) on the ground to support this satellite connectivity. These ground stations will take the signal from the satellite floating in the sky and forward it. A major advantage of this entire project will be that India will have its own Satellite Communications Ecosystem. This will not only provide fast internet to the common people, but will also provide a new and strong foundation to the technical and working infrastructure of the country.

How Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellites Work

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication is a very advanced internet technology. This entire technology mainly works on three parts and a specific network structure. Let us understand it in simple language:

1. Low Altitude Floating Satellites (LEO): Traditional TV or Internet satellites are approximately 36,000 kilometers away from the Earth (Geostationary Orbit). Due to such distance, it takes time for data to travel, which we call High Latency or lag. The altitude of LEO is very close to the Earth. These occur only at an altitude of 500 to 2,000 kilometers. Its advantage is that data travels at the speed of lightning. With this, you get the same fast internet as you get through fiber cable laid on the ground.
2. ‘Consultation’ means network of satellites: Since these satellites are very close to the Earth, a single satellite cannot cover a large area of ​​the land. Also, they do not remain stationary, but revolve around the Earth very fast (one revolution in about 90 to 120 minutes). For this, a network of hundreds or thousands of small satellites (constellation) is left in space. When one satellite passes over your area, another satellite immediately takes its place. The receiver installed at your home connects to the next satellite without waiting for a second. You get uninterrupted internet access.

How does the whole system work?

This entire process is completed in 4 steps:

1. Earth Station: Jio will have large data centers and mobile towers on the ground, which will be connected to the main internet sources. These stations send huge signals to the satellites in the sky.
2. Inter-Satellite Links (Laser Technology): In space, these satellites remain connected to each other through laser beams. Data is transferred from one satellite to another in space.
3. User Terminal: A small antenna (dish) will be installed on the roof of your house or in a remote village.
4. Connectivity: The satellite will send the internet signal directly to that dish, and from there you will be able to access the internet on your phone or laptop through Wi-Fi. For this, there will be no need to lay any cable on the ground or install a mobile tower.
