Is the back side of your fridge too hot? Do not ignore these signs at all
You must have often noticed that the coils behind the refrigerator remain very hot. Many people get scared after seeing this and think that the fridge has gone bad. But in most cases this is completely normal. Yet sometimes this heat can also become a signal of danger.
Let us understand why this happens and when you should worry.
Why does the grill behind the fridge get hot?
The refrigerator keeps the goods cool by taking out the internal heat. For this, refrigerant gas is used in the refrigerator. When the gas passes through the compressor it becomes hot. This heat is taken out through the mesh (condenser coils) installed at the back. That is, the mesh behind the refrigerator works to release heat. Therefore generally it remains mildly warm.
In summer or when the refrigerator runs for a long time, it can become hotter. This is a sign of the refrigerator working properly.
When does it become a matter of danger?
Light heat is normal, but if the grill is getting too hot, it could be a sign of one of the following problems: Excessive dust accumulation on the grill – Dust blocks the grill, preventing heat from escaping and causing the refrigerator to overheat.
- Compressor problem- An old or damaged compressor produces more heat.
- Gas leaking- The refrigerator works harder when there is less gas.
- Poor ventilation- If the refrigerator is kept too close to the wall, heat cannot escape.
- overloadingFilling the fridge with too much stuff can also cause problems.
How to recognize danger?
- Touch the mesh with your hand – if it is so hot that your hand cannot bear it, then there is a problem.
- There is a smell like burning or burning plastic coming from the back of the refrigerator.
- Electricity bill suddenly increases a lot.
- The refrigerator starts cooling down, but the back grill is still very hot.
- The area near the refrigerator feels unusually warm.
What to do
- If the mesh is too hot?
- Clean the mesh behind the refrigerator (with a brush or vacuum cleaner) every 3-6 months.
- Keep the refrigerator at least 6-8 inches away from the wall.
- Do not keep hot food directly in the refrigerator.
- If the problem persists, call the service center immediately.
It is normal for the grill behind the refrigerator to get hot, but excessive heat is a danger sign. You can avoid this problem by regular cleaning and keeping the refrigerator at the right place.
Fridge is our essential item, if we take care of it on time then it will continue to run for years without any major problem. If your fridge grate is unusually hot, clean it today or call a technician. A little caution can save you from big losses.
