Hyderabad Data Center City: The country’s first data center city will be built in Hyderabad, will be constructed on 1500 acres.
Hyderabad: Telangana state is standing on the threshold of creating a new and golden history in the field of digital infrastructure and cutting-edge technology. The state government has prepared a very ambitious and far-reaching plan to develop India’s first dedicated ‘Data Center City’ very close to Hyderabad. The main objective of this mega project is to attract the world’s largest data center operators, cloud service providers and global tech giants at one place. With this step, Telangana is ready to emerge as a big superpower not only in India but on the global digital map.
According to official information received from the Department of Information Technology and Industry, about 1,500 acres of suitable land has been identified and marked in Alur village under Chevella mandal for this huge and much-awaited project. Telangana Chief Minister A. Taking this scheme with utmost seriousness, Revanth Reddy has given strict instructions to the concerned higher officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on its basic requirements, technical aspects and various stages of development as soon as possible. The government seems fully committed to completing this project in a time bound manner.
Hyderabad is the first choice of global technology companies, 5 GW projects in pipeline
Geographically and strategically, Hyderabad has already been the first choice of investment for global technology companies and multinational corporates. The city is currently successfully served by the world’s largest IT companies like Amazon and Microsoft as well as leading data center operators like CtrlS, CapitaLand, STT Global, NTT Data, Sify and Tillman Global Holdings. Talking about the figures, at present 150 to 200 MW capacity data centers are fully active in the state, while keeping in view the future needs, many big projects with a huge combined capacity of 5 gigawatt (GW) are currently in the pipeline.
Government’s master plan to deal with the big challenge of electricity and water
The biggest technical challenge in operating data centers is the requirement of huge amounts of water and uninterrupted power consumption without any interruption. For a permanent solution to this big problem, the Telangana government has prepared a concrete master plan. To deal with the acute shortage of water, treated wastewater will be supplied smoothly to industries under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. With the help of 41 state-of-the-art Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) of Hyderabad Jal Board, 530 million liters of clean water will be provided daily to major industrial areas like Chandanvalley and Bharat Future City. Apart from this, to meet the huge demand of electricity, the government is also seriously considering the policy of providing open access power supply to these companies.
Areas like Aloor and Chandanavelli will become big hubs for global investors.
Due to the proximity to Hyderabad International Airport, excellent Outer Ring Road connectivity and easy availability of strong infrastructure, areas like Aloor, Chandanavelli and Fab City are poised to emerge as the largest and most secure investment hub for global investors. Experts believe that after this data center city comes on the ground, not only billions of dollars of foreign investment will come to the state, but new and big employment opportunities will also be created for thousands of youth at the local level, directly and indirectly.
