Windows 10 won’t shut down so quickly! Microsoft extended the period of security updates for millions of users
Microsoft has given big relief to crores of users using Windows 10. The company has quietly extended the date of its Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Earlier this program was to be available only till October 2026, but now Microsoft has decided to continue it till October 12, 2027.
This will give more time to those whose older computers do not yet meet the hardware requirements of Windows 11.
Microsoft has informed on its support website that users who are included in the ESU program will continue to receive security updates till October 12, 2027. If a user is already registered in this program, then he will not need to do anything again. His ESU coverage will automatically continue till the new date.
This is necessary before joining the program
The company says that users who have not yet joined the ESU program can also enroll anytime till its last date. However, Microsoft has warned that the system will be at high risk of viruses, malware and other cyber threats until enrollment.
This decision is especially beneficial for those users whose PCs do not meet Windows 11 hardware standards. They will now have about a year more time to buy a new computer or upgrade to Windows 11, while their system will continue to receive necessary security updates.
To join the ESU program, users must sign in with their microservices. This feature is available on Home, Professional, Pro Education, and Workstation editions of Windows 10 version 22H2.
Also, it is also necessary to have the latest update of Windows 10 installed in the device. According to Microsoft, up to 10 devices can be covered with one ESU license.
