Ex-England cricketer Liam Plunkett makes professional baseball debut

Former England fast bowler Liam Plunkett made his pro-baseball debut when he turned out for the Oakland Ballers in USA’s Pioneer Baseball League on Friday night.

Plunkett signed a contract to join the Ballers under the Pioneer Baseball League’s marketing player exception, which allows clubs to bypass their standard roster eligibility limits.

Plunkett has made over 100 appearances for the England cricket team and has taken nearly 200 international wickets. The 41-year-old was part of England’s trophy winning squad at the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Plunkett has not featured for England post that tournament and shifted base to the USA five years ago and has played in the Major League Cricket (MLC) for the San Francisco Unicorns.
