New Delhi. The new Electric Vehicle Policy (Delhi EV Policy-2026) of Delhi Government has come into effect from today. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has described this new policy as a historic step towards making the capital pollution free by March 31, 2030. Under this policy, electric two-wheeler buyers will get a subsidy of Rs 30,000 and three-wheeler buyers will get Rs 50,000 subsidy in the first year. Also, scrapping incentive of Rs 1 lakh will be given to BS-IV four-wheeler owners. You will also get 100% rebate in road tax and registration fees on purchasing EV up to Rs 30 lakh. There has also been a major change in the rules for getting government subsidy on EVs. Buyers will have to apply for the subsidy themselves by visiting a special online portal within 30 days of the generation of the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC). If someone does not apply within this deadline, he will not get government assistance.
Earlier, while purchasing the car, the dealers used to complete all the paperwork and application process for subsidy on behalf of the customers. But now this responsibility will be entirely of the vehicle owner. According to the report of The Indian Express, the Delhi Transport Department will launch a special portal within a week to apply for subsidy. This portal will be the main platform to process subsidy applications and digitally monitor the entire scheme.
Money will be transferred directly to Aadhaar linked account
Electric vehicle buyers will be able to claim subsidy online by registering themselves on the portal. After getting approval from the Transport Department, the entire amount of subsidy will be sent to the bank account of the buyer. This entire process will be handled through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) of the Central Government. The amount will be sent to the same account which will be linked to the buyer’s Aadhaar.
Subsidy up to ₹ 30,000 will be available on two-wheelers
If you are going to buy a new electric two-wheeler then the government is giving you great incentives. However, the thing to keep in mind is that the benefit of subsidy will be maximum in the first year.
- First year: Subsidy of ₹30,000
- Second year: Subsidy of ₹20,000
- Third year: Subsidy of ₹10,000
Apart from this, 100 per cent exemption in road tax and registration fees will be given on all electric cars with ex-showroom price up to Rs 30 lakh registered in Delhi.
Real-time dashboard will also be created
Delhi government is also preparing a real-time EV dashboard for the convenience of EV drivers. Through this dashboard, people will be able to see on their mobile how much space is available at which charging station, even before leaving home. On this, information like the exact location of the charging station, number of available charging points, charging capacity and possible waiting time will be available.
