Stokes set to play for Durham in One-Day Cup in first match after England retirement

In what will be his first competitive match since announcing his international retirement, Ben Stokes will turn out for Durham against Derbeyshire in the opening round of the One-Day Cup starting on Tuesday, July 21.

Stokes shocked the cricketing world when he announced his retirement from all formats of the game following the conclusion of the three match Test series against New Zealand, which the Kiwis won 2-1.

After announcing his retirement, Stokes had revealed he would continue playing club level cricket in England and explore other opportunities around the world.

Stokes had appeared for Durham in the County Championship against Northamptonshire when he missed the second Test due to investigation into the controversial nightclub incident.

The match against Derbeyshire will mark the first time the all-rounder has played a domestic one-day fixture for Durham in 12 years.
