Yamaha has patented a new electric scooter.

Yamaha Motor has filed a design patent for its new electric scooter in Japan, pictures of which have been leaked online. This scooter is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its EV lineup and is likely to be launched in global markets including India. In the design, a good balance has been given to everyday utility with modern and sporty look. Sharp angles, LED lights and practical features can make it an attractive option for the Indian EV market.

At present the specifications have not been released officially, but it can give performance equal to 125 cc ICE scooter. The leaked images show that Yamaha is focusing on both premium feel and affordable commuting. This model can compete with companies like Ather, Ola, TVS. Design and Styling

The look of the scooter looks quite contemporary in the patent images. The angled front apron, dual headlamps with V-shaped LED DRL, translucent top cowl and angled rearview mirrors are attractive. The front turn indicators are compact. 12-inch alloy wheels, disc brakes on both sides and single-piece long seat are comfortable for daily commuting. Flat floorboard allows easy storage of luggage. There are integrated grab rails and LED tail lamps at the rear. The overall design is practical while maintaining the sporty Yamaha DNA.

Performance and Features

The scooter has a centrally mounted electric motor, which powers the rear wheel through belt drive. The removable battery is placed under the seat. There are telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Possible features may include keyless start, digital display, USB charger, smartphone connectivity, regenerative braking and multiple riding modes. Front storage space is also expected to be provided.

Who competes with whom in the market?

When launched in India, it will compete with models like Ather Rizta, TVS iQube, Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak and Suzuki e-Access. This can become a volume generator under Yamaha’s EV strategy. However, the launch timeline has not been completely cleared yet.
