Roar over car in BMC! 'Back pain' increased due to Scorpio N, leaders asked for InnovaZoom

BMC leaders have demanded to change the fleet.

While the popularity of rugged SUVs is rising across the country and there is a waiting period of months for vehicles like Mahindra Scorpio-N, a very interesting and unique news has come out from the country’s richest municipality i.e. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)! The shining Mahindra Scorpio-N allotted to senior BMC leaders and committee chairpersons just 6 months ago is not being liked. The reason is not some technical fault, but the leaders are complaining of back pain.

The leaders claim that while traveling on the potholed roads of Mumbai, the suspension of the Scorpio-N gives jolts, causing pain in their waist and spine. To get relief from this ‘back pain’, BMC has now prepared a new proposal of about Rs 1.5 crore. Under this, preparations are being made to buy Toyota Innova Crysta, which is considered one of the most comfortable MPVs, in place of Scorpio for the Deputy Mayor, House Leader and chairpersons of various committees.

What is the whole matter?

Earlier this year, BMC had purchased Scorpio-N SUVs worth more than Rs 20 lakh for its top leaders. But politicians who make long daily journeys from remote areas like Borivali, Dahisar and Kandivali to South Mumbai said the Scorpio’s seats and ride quality are not suitable for long journeys.

BMC Mayor Ritu Tawde has supported this demand and said that it is justified to upgrade the vehicles keeping in mind the health of the leaders during long journeys. At the same time, after this decision, a new turn has come in the politics of Mumbai. The opposition has launched a scathing attack calling it a wasteful expenditure of public money and has said that if the roads are pothole free, then jerks will not be felt in the vehicles.

What is the difference between suspension and comfort of both?

Technically speaking, the huge difference in ride comfort of both the vehicles is due to their suspension setup and chassis design. Mahindra Scorpio N is an SUV. At the same time, Innova Crysta is considered one of the popular MPVs of the country. Let us understand the difference between the two-
