Samsung is placing a massive bet on AI tools to rethink how we use health tech, hoping to catch wellness issues before you ever need to set foot in a doctor’s office. Instead of just counting steps, new algorithms across Galaxy watches and rings analyze your daily body trends to spot early signs of trouble before you even feel off.

Shifting from step counts to proactive care

In a recent chat about Samsung’s direction with TechRadar, Annika Bizon, VP of Product and Marketing for Mobile Experience, pointed out that generic goals like walking 10,000 steps are pretty outdated.

The new goal centers on smart, personalized nudges that help you adjust your daily routine in real time based on how your body is actually doing. Take the new Vitals feature, for instance. It tracks your overnight heart rate and breathing patterns, which can flag that a cold might be coming on so you know to rest up or double down on vitamins.

On top of that, built-in ECG tools can generate medical-grade reports directly from your wrist. And coming soon, an AI nutrition feature will let you log meals in a snap just by taking a quick photo of your plate.

Navigating privacy concerns: can you control your data?

When it comes to handling sensitive body data, trust is key. This stands out especially with ongoing debates around tech companies harvesting personal information. Addressing those privacy concerns, Bizon made it clear that users stay in full control of their data, and you can use Samsung Health just fine even if you choose not to turn on AI features.

Echoing that stance at a recent Health Forum, Rohit Ali from Samsung R&D UK stressed that the company views itself strictly as a custodian of user data rather than the owner. While opting out is always an option, unlocking the best predictive features naturally requires letting the AI learn your personal baselines.
